Yoga; is it suitable for Middle-aged Men?

I am passionate about sharing the power of Pilates and Yoga with anyone and everyone. But did you know that Men can benefit from Yoga as much as women, sometimes more?

3 Reasons Why Yoga is Great for Middle-aged Men

  1. Men tend to be stiffer with less mobile joints, so making a point of incorporating stretching into your daily life can help counteract this natural tendency.
  2. If you have a desk-based job you will inevitably spend extended periods sitting. This can contribute to poor posture and posture-related pain and problems; think of neck and back pain. Yoga is a great antidote to a sedentary job.
  3. When you do sports like running or cycling you may be forgiven for thinking you are fit and don’t need to do anything else. But these sports are very linear with little movement variability, Yoga postures offer many movement directions and will challenge not only your flexibility but also your strength.

Luckily for us all it’s never too late to realise the benefits of moving more.

Check out this raw and honest conversation on YouTube

Jeff Wellstead CEO of Big Bear Partners, Ltd was an athlete in his youth but a sedentary work life and a busy family took their toll on his health. He gained a lot of weight, lost fitness and Type 2 diabetes came knocking. This was one health problem that he couldn’t ignore.

Jeff was kind enough to share his weight loss surgery experiences and his quest to get back to a more active lifestyle in midlife. Following a hip replacement he is keen to discover whether Yoga is suitable for middle-aged men. He was honest with me and admitted that he had some reservations about Yoga and Pilates for a man in midlife. He confessed to his biases, surely Yoga (or Pilates) is just for young, beautiful, flexible people with all the expensive gear??
