Pilates for Midlife and Beyond…
All my Group Pilates Classes are designed to maximise midlife. We will improve muscle tone around the middle, help you stand up taller, improve your balance and strengthen muscle and bone. All the movements are underpinned by the Pilates Fundamentals of concentration, control and precision of movement.
Pilates for Beginners
This session is suitable for people who are new to Pilates or returning to Pilates after a break. We will learn the Pilates Fundamentals of breathing, body alignment and core engagement, adding small equipment with light hand weights, the Pilates soft ball and Phillipa’s favourite the resistance band! Modifications and Progressions are offered to allow you to work at a level suited to your own body.
Pilates for Improvers
Now you have grasped the fundamentals, let’s take it up a level with a more challenging and imaginative repertoire. We will strengthen, tone, improve posture and balance all in one hour, harnessing body weight resistance and Pilates small equipment. Modifications and Progressions are offered to allow you to work at a level suited to your own body.
Suitable if you have prior Pilates experience.
Yoga for Midlife and Beyond…
All our Hatha Yoga Classes are designed to maximise midlife. We will improve your flexibility, physical strength and balance with the added sleep-boosting benefits of the Yoga breathing practice (pranayama) and a period of stress-busting relaxation or meditation to finish.
Discover Yoga
This session is suitable for Beginners. You can expect an accommodating practice combining static postures, flowing combinations and mindful breathwork at a manageable pace. Once the physical practice is complete, with mind and body in harmony, we will enjoy a few moments of relaxation.
Yoga for Improvers
Now you can graduate to enjoy more challenging practice with longer holds, movement sequences and more challenging balances suited to those having some prior experience. Once the physical practice is complete, with mind and body in harmony, we will enjoy a few moments of relaxation.
Move Mindfully to ‘Sail through’ Menopause and “Make Midlife the Time of Your Life”
Yoga and other mind-body practices like Pilates help with menopause because they regulate the nervous system and support the body and mind. A recent meta-analysis of over 1,000 peri- and post-menopausal women found significant improvements in anxiety, depression, sleep quality, and fatigue (Xu et al., Menopause, 2024). And a pilot study showed yoga reduced hot flush frequency by about 66% in just 10 weeks (Avis et al., Menopause, 2014). Wherever you are in your journey, there’s a session here for you.
