A Menopause Menu for ‘The Change’ with Dr Susan Baumgaertel

by | Aug 5, 2021 | Moving Through Menopause Podcast

This episode I jet ‘virtually’ across the pond and chat with Physician Susan J. Baumgaertel, MD FACP all about her plans to empower us all to thrive through and beyond menopause with her community hub; the ‘menopause menu’.

Susan received her Doctor of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine and enjoyed a long career culminating in 25 years in Private Practice. Susan developed and ran her hugely successful ‘menu for change’ weight management programme in her Private Practice, she received recognition from the National Committee for Quality Assurance and appeared on listings of The Best Doctors in America, America’s Top Physicians and Seattle Met Top Doctors.

We chatted all about factors contributing to weight gain in menopause and why we should shift our focus to wellness rather than weight. But isn’t weight loss tied to being healthy? How does body image contribute to our desire for that ideal number on the scale? What about mental health, stress and sleep? It’s really not as simple as a few extra pounds around the middle and so it calls for a co-ordinated, cohesive plan:

  • Susan outlines her “four pillars” of health: Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep and Stress and how they impact on weight.

None of us are getting any younger so shouldn’t we expect to things to change? Well there will be more candles on the cake for sure, but there is much we can do to live better for longer! So let’s challenge the status quo and advocate for wellness at any age? It’s resounding YES from me and Susan.

Connect with Dr Susan’s ‘Menopause Menu’ website for science-based health information balanced with a holistic focus on personal well-being. All are invited to improve individual empowerment, reinforce sustainable life balance, and build nourishing paths to feeling healthy and well.
